07/08/09 - New York/Lorient in a sport catamaran: Orange Code for OCTO FINANCES.

For Benoît LEQUIN and Pierre-Yves MOREAU, the countdown has just begun at the feet of Miss Liberty. While he has just succeeded the express North Atlantic crossing and beaten the record of the giant boat of Pascal BIDEGORRY and his crew, Pierre-Yves MOREAU, known as PYM, and his friend Benoit LEQUIN are preparing for a new challenge with the elements : New York / Lorient in less than 17 days on board with their OCTO FINANCES sport catamaran. The route planner, Christian DUMART, has declared a good weather forecast for August, 11. The French navigators from Lorient are currently on stand-by, awaiting the approval which will only be confirmed 2 days before the departure. Four days before the hypothetical departure, the pressure is rising and the crew is concentrating.

The boat is on surface, well supplied and ready for sail. After the last technical check up, life raft on board, the time has come to control the individual security equipments and there again, Benoît and PYM have all planned in case of fall: besides the indispensable VFI, they permanently have in the banana bag, hung to the belt, fluorescein, a flash light, boat distress rockets, a VHF portable and an individual distress beacon, a “spot”.

Under their polar clothing, a high-tech aluminised combination adapted to extreme scuba-diving conditions will protect them from cold and humidity; they will also be wearing an innovating waterproof combination, a Marine Pool prototype especially developed for them, for the OCTO FINANCES challenge.
It is time to concentrate: sleep is necessary to accumulate some rest and energy and avoid tiredness and any risk of slumbering, mostly the first four or five days in the cold and fog, added to stress. They are also enjoying having some good time with Bretons from New York who are pampering them, and to relax, they are spending these last days at Hudson Bay, on board of an old Canadian fishing boat “Cape Race”, converted in a cruise ship!
Expectation is everywhere: glued to the Internet, Christian DUMART, the route planner, will give the starting signal! It could be forecasted in 6 days, which represents half of the way. The other half is still unknown and will define the reference time record…
